The winery, a business ran by the Baxter family, began when Stephen and Sally Baxter, were searching for a way to expand production at the ranch. He planted 3 acres of vines and began experimenting with wine-making in their kitchen just for fun. Wine-making classes followed at Grayson County College in Denton and the Baxters began touring tasting rooms all over the state. The couple and their children, Savannah and Shane and their families, fell in love with the wine-making industry.
So to begin we turned our game room into a tasting room (over 1200 sq. ft.)and part of our barn became the wine-making room( 2000 sq. ft.). We have since expanded the winery to include the whole barn. Our outdoor patio area is over 3200 sq. ft. at this time and is waiting for the next Fiesta! Our 3 acre vineyard at Bend has Cabernet Sauvignon, Mourvedre and Tempranillo vines. Our 7 acre vineyard in Newburg has Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Viognier and Chardonnay. Weston McCoury (son in law) handcrafts our wines and Savannah Baxter-McCoury (daughter) designs all our labels and at the moment Shane Baxter (son) delivers them to stores all over Texas including some HEB's. Eventually, we hope to expand our grape-growing into the 100 acres we have available. In addition to the wine-tasting room and back porch area, we hope to build a pavilion in the future to host weddings overlooking the beautiful Colorado River.
"We want everyone to come out here and relax. You can sit at the tables inside or make yourself comfortable outside on the patio by the pool," said Sally.
We encourage folks to bring a picnic basket and plan to enjoy the beautiful countryside.
For those who prefer snacks we offer cheese, sausage and crackers for sale to accompany our wine. We are accepting reservations for weddings, showers, reunions and parties of any type.
Even though we are new to the wine busniess, we already have six awards. In 2011 Fiesta Winery earned a bronze medal for Home Sweet Home at The Dallas Morning News International Wine Competition. And out of 2,700 entries, to capture third place is very exciting for us. A bronze medal also was awarded in the San Antonio Wine Competition for Texas Well Water Wine entry. In 2012 we won two SILVER awards for our Tempranillo and Back Porch Sittin at the San Antonio Wine Competition. In 2013 we won two bronze medals for Savannah Rose and Back Porch Sittin' in the San Antonio Wine Competition.
We take pride and enjoy the opportunity to bring you superior wine, full of love from our family to yours.
