Cheers to Cabernet Day

Updated: Oct 20, 2023

Cabernet Sauvignon was created in France when chance brought Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc together. This blend became the most frequently planted grape in the world. Cabernet Sauvignon, a noble grape, is an international superstar and the most recognized grape in the world from Bordeaux, France, to Napa Valley, California. This varietal has a thicker skin than other grapes and thrives well in warm climates, perfect for Texas! It typically produces a full-bodied wine, rich with tannins, carrying a heavy oak flavor, and finished with a blend of spices and cherry. The best Cabernet Sauvignon is rich and firm with great depth and concentration.

Fiesta Winery's Cabernet Sauvignon

Fiesta Winery’s new 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is an awesome addition to any wine list. These amazing grapes came from Newsom Family Vineyards, a business dedicated to growing high-quality wine grapes in the Texas High Plains for more than 30 years. Starting with just two acres of Cabernet Sauvignon in the spring of 1986, Newsom Vineyards now spans a vast 150 acres with 19 grape varieties and supplies fruit to over ten wineries in the state.*

This 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon was blended from well-established grapes in a warm climate, creating a full body and warm, baked-cherry notes. The wine was then aged for 18 months in American oak barrels. This labor of love is a wonderful addition to any wine cellar and a thoughtful gift for the wine lover in your life!

I really enjoyed learning about the history of Cabernet Sauvignon in this post! The tasting notes for the 2016 vintage sound incredible, especially the pairing with homemade chili. Since I like to keep a digital cellar log of all the wine articles I read, I used MarkdownConverter Pro to turn this blog post into a clean Markdown file for my personal notes. It’s so much easier to organize than just saving bookmarks!

This article perfectly captures why Cabernet Sauvignon is such a beloved varietal. The journey from its serendipitous origin in France to becoming a global superstar, thriving even in Texas, is truly fascinating. I love the detailed tasting notes for Fiesta Winery’s 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon; "spicy black cherry pie" sounds absolutely divine! It's clear a lot of passion went into this, much like the precision needed to combine images. For anyone needing a great tool for that, I highly recommend checking out Merge JPG Files – it's incredibly practical!
